In the Buns Fresh Cut Fries
Returned to In the Buns to check out the fresh cut fries. Burger still delicious (had the cheddar burger again). Fries much better than the generic frozen curlies I experienced on my first visit (more pix in that post). They also upgraded the tables–replaced most of the too-small tables that featured the odd fork sculptures with roomier tables sans art.
So the upshot: french fry upgrade and table upgrade = good experience. Only cons: somewhat grating music, and I wish the combo price were a dollar or two cheaper (comes to $9 and change as is). This is by far the best burger I’ve found in the area.

Hat Creek Deal
This one is priced right–pay $3 for $6 of grub. Good through 11/23/11. And as always, the Fb terms indicate that even if you don’t use it before expiration, the face value of the voucher ($3) is still redeemable after that date: “After the end of the promotional period, the Voucher may be redeemed for goods or services in the amount originally paid.”

Mike Sutter’s 50 Burgers in 50 Days
Erstwhile Statesman food reporter Mike Sutter has a new site, Fed Man Walking, and he’s just embarked on a series sure to be of interest to ABN readers–50 Burgers in 50 Days. So far he’s hit Top Notch, Dirty’s, Hat Creek, Dan’s, Phil’s, Five Guys and Hopdoddy. NIce pix of burgers and sides included with each entry. Worth keeping up with. There is no index page for the series that I can find, so just navigate to his home page and click on the link in the upper right of the page.

Moonie’s Opening Third Location
Cedar Park’s Moonie’s Burger House is opening a third location at MoPac and Burnet, in the same shopping center as TacoDeli, at 12001 Burnet Road. Looks like the same spot as the failed Gabbi’s Burgers and Dogs occupied.

hey chris…we are now open in that location. Its a smaller but “cozier” place than our other locations. We are testing a few different things over there. We have a family meal deal for $21.99 that feeds two adults and two kids…we have a happy hour from 4-7pm everyday. ALL bottled beer is $2. One of the best deals in town! And for you we offer either sliced or shredded cheddar (asked for shredded) to top off your burger. Thanks for letting people know we are open…. brian (owner)

Thanks for the info Brian, and thanks for the Cheddar update! Two varieties of cheddar–that’s even better. Will have to get by and give this location a try.

I am at that location quite a bit so let me know when you are there..would like to meet you. remember you can get extra mayo etc. if you want it on your burger. Your one of the few that has said we had “dry bun” syndrome Nothing worse than dry buns. The bun is usually one of the things we receive great reviews on. Look forward to seeing you and thanks for letting people know we are open. It really helps us smaller guys. brian

AVOID AT ALL COSTS! I went with a couple people from the office (1:15pm 10/3) and we bought lunch to take back to everyone. One of the ladies has a thing about soggy bread and asked if the meat could be wrapped separate from the bread with condiments on the side. She was told, “no, we don’t do that here’ (accompanied with an attitude). She didn’t understand the combo menu and asked a question, but was given a serious attitude and given a one word answer and I was surprised that his attitude was even worse. Personally, I was ready to just leave. We went ahead and ordered for everyone. NO ONE liked the food, not one. The bun was stale and greasy, the marinade was awful (and I love marinades), the onion rings were flavorless, the SPFries were limp and soggy.
They were not busy when we were there. There was only one table that was eating. Two other orders (2 people each came in after us) and we only ordered for 6 people. No excuse. Will not give them another chance, will make sure I advertise for them. They are really pricy and I wouldn’t mind if the food was good and the ‘order taker” at least smiled and was pleasant and helpful. They loose on all points.

My daughter and I had cheeseburgers, fries and a drink today.
The Cheeseburger was $4.50, Fries, $2.00 and I’m not sure how much the drink was. I will not go back.
The burger was pretty bland. They use sweet pickles instead of dill, which I didn’t like and the lettuce looked and tasted like kale.
We ate inside and the ketchup tasted old, I’m pretty sure it’s been sitting on out for a while.
The fries are so-so, but they have a seasoning that taste like onions and I HATE onions.
And the drinks – the only “normal” fountain drink I saw was Diet Coke. The rest of the drinks are off-brand names that I have never heard of. I wanted Dr Pepper, and they had one that looked similar to Dr Pepper, but the name was in a different language? Anyway, it said “made with pure cane sugar” and it tasted kind of like a mix of Mr Pibb and Diet Dr Pepper – yuck.
So, I felt like we wasted our money, but now we know, and so do you.
